This Man Traveled Round the World Using Electric Motorcycle, Solo and Unsupported

A historic milestone has been achieved in the field of electric mobility with the completion of the first solo ride round the world using an electric motorcycle. Riding round the world and circumnavigating the globe, this unsponsored adventure serves as a testament to the potential and reliability of electric mobility even in long-distance use cases.

Roman Nedielka, a Slovakian national residing in Indonesia, embarked on his journey from Jakarta in July 2023 with a vision to demonstrate the viability and reliability of electric motorcycles through this extreme long-distance journey going round the entire world. Using a standard Zero DSR/X electric motorcycle without any modification, this journey project which is called “e.round the world” started from Indonesia to Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkiye, Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia, Czechia, Germany, France, the United States, Australia, Timor Leste, and back to Indonesia covering over 42,000km round the world completely solo, first time ever such solo ride of electric motorcycle round the world has been achievement.

Throughout his 7-month journey, Roman encountered diverse cultures, climates, and landscapes, each presenting its own set of challenges and experiences. From Southeast Asia's forests crossing during the wet rainy season, vast empty stretches of Kazakhstan's deserts with strong winds, the freezing temperatures of the United States in winter, to the 45°C summer heats in Australian summer.

Despite the challenging conditions, the journey was successful without any issues with the motorcycle, requiring only maintenance typical for traditional motorcycles such as tires and brakes change after 25,000km.

“Throughout my journey, it was always possible to find a charging spot. I could just ask permission from people there to use it to charge my bike, and generally, they are nice and helpful. I never run out of battery during my entire ride.”

According to Roman, one of the standout features of the electric motorcycle is its quiet operation, particularly noticeable in contrast to the noise of Jakarta's traffic and cities in China where combustion motorcycles have been banned.

The main challenges during his solo journey were adapting to varying weather conditions and navigating customs procedures when crossing borders. Additionally, differing charging standards across countries necessitated carrying adaptors and cables suitable for each location.

For those who want to embark on a solo ride, Roman emphasized the importance of maintaining physical fitness. Before departure, he prepared by focusing on dietary intake, weightlifting, and yoga. In addition, consuming healthy food is also very important.

"During the journey, while my focus was primarily on charging my bike and ensuring its smooth operation, I realized the challenge of accessing proper food," he shared. "Now that I’m finished with this adventure, I look forward to prioritizing healthier eating habits and fitness."

“It's much more impactful on the potential of electric motorcycles in Indonesia because there are 9 times more motorcycles than cars. So, the impact will be huge if Indonesians start using electric motorcycles.”

Despite coming from a humble background, thanks to 22 years of hard work in his career, he could achieve this journey without any sponsorship or monetization of content, which ensured authenticity and relevance to the public.

As he concludes his journey, Roman remains committed to elevating the e-mobility ecosystem in Indonesia and encouraging more people to embrace sustainable transportation options.

"I hope to inspire more people to consider electric mobility and contribute to increasing livability and quality of life in Indonesian cities" Roman expressed.
